Telecommunications group MTN South Africa plans to invest R332-million into network infrastructure across Limpopo in the 2026 financial year.

The planned investment will strengthen network capacity, expand connectivity and improve service resilience across the province.

MTN currently operates nearly 1 000 LTE-enabled sites in Limpopo, including over 100 active 5G sites, providing communities and businesses with access to reliable, high-speed connectivity.

During 2026, the company will deploy over 100 Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output upgrades and modernise 38 network sites.

“Reliable connectivity is fundamental to economic growth, education and innovation. Our continued investment in Limpopo reflects MTN's commitment to ensuring that more people, businesses and public institutions can participate meaningfully in the digital economy,” said MTN South Africa deputy CEO Yolanda Cuba.

Beyond network investment, MTN continues to make a significant contribution to social and economic development through the MTN Foundation.

The foundation, having invested more than R58-million in education, digital inclusion, youth development and community empowerment initiatives across Limpopo, has established 70 multimedia centres in Quintile 1 to 3 schools, community centres, special schools and nursing colleges.

It has further trained 200 unemployed youth in accredited network and systems administration programmes in partnership with the Vhembe district municipality and the University of Venda, with an additional 80 youth expected to start training in 2026.

In addition, the foundation has expanded access to digital skills through the establishment of a Gender-Based Violence Digital Skills Centre, providing survivors with access to technology, digital literacy and online learning opportunities.

“Our investments extend beyond connectivity. We are committed to creating lasting impact by empowering communities with the digital skills, infrastructure and opportunities needed to thrive in an increasingly connected world,” added Cuba.

The new investment commitments emerged during the company's multi-stakeholder engagement programme in the province.

The engagements were held on August 5 with Limpopo Health MEC Dieketseng Masesi Mashego and City of Polokwane Mayor Councillor John Mpe.

The regional stakeholder engagement programme forms part of MTN South Africa's ongoing commitment to partnering with government and communities to accelerate digital inclusion, drive innovation and support sustainable socioeconomic development across South Africa.
